Questions about personal tax returns
How much does it cost to have my tax return done?
Our fees are fixed per tax year and depend on what your return includes: Basic covers salary, medical aid and retirement annuities; Standard adds rental, investment and side income; Premium adds foreign income, capital gains and a planning review. We confirm the exact fee on a free 20-minute call before any work starts.
SARS auto-assessed me. Do I still need a tax practitioner?
An auto-assessment only uses the third-party data SARS already holds, such as your IRP5 and certificates from financial institutions. It can miss income SARS doesn't know about and deductions such as out-of-pocket medical costs, travel claims or a qualifying home office. We check the auto-assessment and tell you whether to accept it or file a corrected return.
What happens if SARS selects my return for verification?
SARS asks for documents that support the figures on your return. We prepare the supporting schedules, upload them on eFiling and follow up until the verification is finalised. Verification support is included in every plan.
I haven't filed for a few years. Can you help?
Yes. We request your outstanding returns and third-party data, file each year, and where you qualify ask SARS to remit the administrative penalties. Filing the oldest years first usually stops further monthly penalties from building up.
Do I have to come to your office in Cape Town?
No. You are welcome at our office at 35 Lower Long Street, Cape Town, 8001, but most clients work with us by video call, WhatsApp and our secure client portal, from anywhere in South Africa or abroad.
When is the tax return deadline?
SARS sets the dates each filing season. For the 2026 tax year, non-provisional individuals had to file by 23 October 2026 and provisional taxpayers have until 22 January 2027. See our SARS deadlines guide for the full list.
Do I need to register as a provisional taxpayer?
Usually yes if you earn income that isn't a salary, such as rental, freelance or significant investment income. Provisional taxpayers pay tax in advance twice a year with an IRP6 return. See our provisional tax service.
