Small business questions

How much does an accountant cost for a small business in Cape Town?

It depends on transaction volume, payroll and whether you are VAT registered. We quote a fixed monthly fee after a 20-minute call, so you know the cost before you commit.

Does my company need audited financial statements?

Most small private companies don't need an audit. Depending on the company's public interest score and how its statements are compiled, they may need an independent review or no assurance at all. Close corporations need an accounting officer. We confirm what applies to you.

When must my business register for VAT?

Registration is compulsory once taxable supplies exceed R1 million in any 12-month period, and voluntary registration is possible from R50,000 of taxable supplies. The thresholds are set in the VAT Act and can change, so we check them against your turnover when we onboard you.

Can you catch up years of missing returns and financial statements?

Yes. We rebuild the records, prepare the outstanding financial statements and returns, and where you qualify ask SARS to remit penalties.

Do you work with businesses outside Cape Town?

Yes. Our office is in the Cape Town CBD, and we work with businesses across South Africa through our client portal, video calls and WhatsApp.
